Helping Adults & Teens Move Beyond Survival Mode
What Happened In The Past Is Still Affecting You
Something happened that changed everything. Maybe it was one traumatic event or maybe it was years of living in an unsafe environment. Either way you still feel the impact today. You might feel constantly on edge, bracing for the next bad thing or you replay what happened over and over in your mind even when you're trying to focus on something else.
Maybe you avoid places or people or situations that remind you of what happened which means you're missing out on parts of your life. Or you feel disconnected from yourself or the people around you like you're watching your life from the outside. It’s been exhausting trying to keep it all together while your body and mind are stuck in survival mode.
You Might Be Experiencing
● You have flashbacks or intrusive thoughts about what happened
● You avoid people, places, or situations that remind you of the trauma
● You feel numb or disconnected from yourself and others
● You have trouble sleeping or concentrating
● You feel like you're always in survival mode and can't relax
Trauma keeps you stuck in the past even when you want to move forward. Therapy can help.
Therapy Can Help You Feel Safe and Present Again
It's possible to stop reliving what happened and start living your life. Imagine what it would be like to:
● Feel calm in your own body instead of constantly on alert
● Stop having flashbacks or intrusive thoughts about the trauma
● Feel more connected to yourself and the people you care about
● Sleep better and feel more rested
● Actually be present in your life instead of stuck in survival mode
● Build a life that feels meaningful instead of just trying to get through the day
Therapy can help you get there. Together we'll work on what matters most to you so you can start healing.
Start Feeling More Like Yourself
Trauma may show up as anxiety, depression, or feeling disconnected from yourself and others. It often happens when you weren't allowed to be in your truth and your power or when you had to suppress parts of yourself just to survive. Whatever might be true for you, in therapy we'll work through what happened and I'll walk with you towards feeling better.
We'll also work on helping you feel safer in your body. Trauma lives in the body and shows up as tension, hypervigilance, or feeling numb and disconnected. You'll learn ways to release that tension and reconnect with yourself so you can start to feel more present and alive.
Over time you'll start to feel safer. The past won't have the same grip on you. You'll feel more grounded in the present and more able to build the life you want.
How Trauma Therapy Works
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes and we'll work at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you. Here's how we'll work together:
1. We'll create a safe space. You don't have to relive the trauma or push yourself before you're ready. We'll move at your pace and only go as deep as feels right for you.
2. We'll figure out how trauma is showing up in your life. We'll explore how it's affecting your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of safety so you can start to shift it.
3. We'll focus on what you need to feel better. Maybe that's releasing tension in your body or learning to feel more grounded or figuring out what triggers you and why.
4. You'll experiment with new ways of being. Instead of staying in survival mode or avoiding anything that reminds you of the trauma you'll try different approaches to see what helps you feel more present and alive.
5. You'll start to heal. Over time the trauma won't have the same hold on you. You'll feel safer, more connected to yourself, and more able to enjoy your life.
